And So It Begins...

So… this is a blog. It’s a pretty cool idea and I am excited for the next year. But before I get too far ahead of myself, here’s a little bit about me:

  • My name is Erik. If you’re not my friend, you should be. I’m a pretty cool guy, if I do say so myself.
  • I am 20 years old. (But not for very much longer, the 21st b-day countdown has begun.)
  • I am going to be a junior at the University of Northern Colorado in the fall.
  • I am pursuing a double major of both Communication and English with an emphasis in Secondary Education. I want to be a High School English teacher; education and learning are my passions.
  • I am from Loveland, Colorado
  • I am a Resident Assistant on campus and will live in Turner Hall next fall.
I guess the first thing I want to dive into, especially since I’m not living on campus yet, is why I chose UNC and why I wanted to initially live on campus/ why I am still living on campus. It was really easy for me to choose UNC. I had known since I was a sophomore in high school that I wanted to be a teacher. With friends in the education program here and with my ample research about the education program versus other programs around the state, I knew this was my best fit. Note how I didn’t say all around the country- I am a HUGE homebody. The fact that UNC is a mere 30 minutes away from my family is just another perk that threw it in front of the line.

Living on campus was the best thing that happened to me my freshman year. I felt so plugged in to the campus community and really found the family I needed. I met more friends than I was expecting and made those life-long relationships you only see in corny Hollywood films. I was in Turner Hall and there was never a dull moment! I live on campus now so I can create more healthy relationships and keep life interesting. I wanted to be an RA to help students feel that connection I had my first year on campus.

Well, those are Erik’s Ideas for this week. Let me know what you think!
